Awards and Recognition

FMC Technologies administers employee award and recognition programs that spotlight outstanding individual employee and team efforts. We have a full spectrum of awards designed to recognize excellent business performance and social/community responsibility. Our awards program includes the formal annual programs and more informal local programs which recognize efforts and performance that go beyond what is required.

Also, we have an incentive-based compensation program that awards outstanding performance. The bonus part of this program is calculated based on how well business performance targets are met and performance of the individual employee.

Health, Safety and Environment


Our workplace culture plays an essential role in FMC Technologies’ success. First and foremost, our overriding value throughout our businesses and in our employees’ everyday work and lives is captured in the phrase “HSE focus in all we do.” HSE is a core value in all our businesses, regardless of the industries or customers we serve. Year over year, our HSE performance consistently ranks in the top percentile demonstrating that our safety records, programs and processes are quantitatively and qualitatively superior. HSE is a continuous improvement process at FMC Technologies – we strive for zero incidents in all our businesses, and we have rigorous procedures aimed at helping us achieve that objective. When an incident does occur, we employ a diligent process not aimed at assigning blame, but determining the root cause or causes that led to the incident. The lessons learned from this investigative process are shared throughout the company, and help compose the texture of our strong safety culture.

Since becoming a separate public company at the end of 2001, our HSE record has been recognized as exceptional when compared to others in the oilfield service and manufacturing industries. In 2003, FMC Technologies’ outstanding safety performance was recognized with our company’s highest internal award – the Chairman’s Award. Usually this achievement is awarded for outstanding technological innovations and/or financial results by a business or project team. This award is typically shared by a relatively small group of employees, compared to our total employee complement. However, in 2003, the safety performance of all employees was judged to be the most outstanding achievement in the company, and so this award was bestowed on all employees, emphasizing the company’s regard for the importance of “HSE focus in all we do.”

In addition to the Chairman’s award, FMC Technologies recognizes outstanding safety performance through the Tower Award, so named in honor of our former President of FMC Corporation, Raymond Tower, who was a champion of safety programs and processes during his tenure. Other safety awards include the Safety Award of Excellence for the most improved Division, Group Managers Safety Award for the best business units, and individual site achievement awards for sites who have worked sustained periods without a lost workday or recordable incident. Sites also receive environmental achievement awards for projects that increase recycling, reduce hazardous waste and reduce energy costs. Furthermore, a number of sites are ISO 14001 certified.

Aside from these internal award programs, our businesses have been acknowledged for outstanding safety performance by third parties. Of note are the awards received by our energy manufacturing operation in Dunfermline, Scotland, in 2004 by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), the leading organization for the promotion of health and safety in the United Kingdom.
